The Galena United Methodist Church expanded it’s purpose and mission in 2025 to more fully embrace the Council of Bishops new mission and purpose statement, adopted in May of that year. We now choose to “Lead Courageously” as we aggressively seek to live by the new Social Justice Principles of the United Methodist Church. To ensure that our facility becomes known as “The church that never sleeps,” we have branded our in-house refreshment station as “Julia’s Mocktail Bar,” to honor our former congregant and former First Lady, Julia Dent Grant, wife of President Ulysses S. Grant. In her biography, while acknowledging her lifelong fidelity to the Methodist Church, she also recognized that there were times when she enjoyed “worldly pleasures.”
